Okay, so the other day I got this wild idea to see just how high a weather balloon could actually go. I’ve seen those cool videos online, and I was like, “I wanna do that!” So, I started doing some digging around to figure out what I needed.

Getting Started
First things first, I needed a balloon. I found some weather balloons online, not too expensive, thankfully. I also grabbed a GPS tracker, you know, so I wouldn’t lose the thing. And, of course, a small camera to capture the whole journey. Think of it like a mini astronaut mission, but without the astronaut. I used some string, duct tape, and a cardboard box to put it all together, it’s pretty simple but that can get all the job done.
The Launch
I found a big, open field near my place – didn’t want the balloon getting tangled in trees or power lines. I filled the balloon with helium, tied everything together securely, and then… liftoff! It was pretty awesome watching it float away, getting smaller and smaller.
Tracking and Waiting
I put the GPS tracker APP on my phone and then began to track it. I spent most of the day, watching that little dot on my phone screen, hoping the balloon would go super high. It was kind of nerve-wracking, to be honest. You’re just waiting and hoping everything works out.
Results
after a few hours, the signal got lost and I know that it’s time to retrieve * to the last location that GPS shows, I finally found it and the camera did record a lot of fantastic images.
It was a total blast, even though it was a lot of waiting around. It’s pretty cool to think you can send something that high up yourself, with just some basic stuff. If you’re looking for a fun weekend project, I’d definitely recommend giving this a shot. I was amazed about how high it can go.
