Today I grabbed a big bag of balloons and thought heck let’s try some simple party stuff anyone can do. Followed along this craft idea floating around, total chaos at first but figured it out step by step. Seriously felt like wrestling octopuses sometimes.
Gathering Supplies
First dumped my craft bin upside down hunting for bits and bobs. Found:
- Cheap balloons in 5 crumpled colors
- Half-empty roll of scotch tape
- Busted-up ballpoint pens for blowing ’em up
- Twine from last year’s gift wrapping
- Scissors sticky with god-knows-what
The Struggles Begin
Man blowing those balloons sucked. Tried three pens before one spat air right. First balloon? POP! Right near my ear – almost jumped outta my chair. Next one kept squirting air when I tied it off. Spent like five minutes battling rubber.
Then came the tape. That roll wouldn’t tear clean for nothing. Ended up gnawing bits off like a squirrel. Scissors? Forget it – sliced one balloon clean open trying to cut twine lengths. Shoulda used a knife.
Finally Making Progress
Piled inflated balloons by size. Small blues, big greens, blah blah. Started tying twine to ’em. Big mistake. Those knots slipped right off smooth latex. Swore twice before looping double knots like my life depended on it.
Tried hanging a balloon column. Taped first balloon to wall – fell in 30 seconds flat. Second one? Shoved a wad of crumpled paper behind the tape. Held… kinda crooked but stuck!
Winning At Balloons (Mostly)
Made three dumb things today:
- A wonky arch using twisted balloons shoved between chairs
- Animal figures that vaguely resembled dogs or sheep – depends on how bad your eyesight is
- Picture backdrops by draping balloons over a broomstick duct-taped to shelves
Honestly, they look terrible and wonderful at the same time. The cat attacked three balloons already. Got ’em pinned up with bent paperclips now. Gonna use this for my nephew’s messy little birthday bash next weekend. Total cost? Basically free since I used garbage laying around. And yeah, I yelled at the stupid tape roll twice. Worth it.
