Alright, let’s talk about them weather balloons. You know, them big floaty things they send up into the sky. Folks keep askin’ how often they do that, so I figured I’d spill the beans.
So, How Often Do They Send Them Up?
Well, from what I hear, them smarty-pants weather folks, the meteor-o-logists, they send them balloons up twice a day, every single day of the year. Yep, even on Christmas and your birthday! Can you believe it? Rain or shine, them balloons gotta go up.
- They do it once in the mornin’ and once in the evenin’.
- Somethin’ about 6 AM and 6 PM when the clocks are forward, and 5 AM and 5 PM when they ain’t. Don’t ask me, I just use the sun to tell time.
Now, why they gotta do it so darn often? Well, it’s ’cause they need to keep an eye on what’s happening up there in the sky. They wanna know ’bout the temperature, how much water’s in the air, the pressure, and how hard the wind’s blowin’ up high. That kinda stuff helps ’em figure out if it’s gonna rain, snow, or if the sun’s gonna shine its face on us.
Where Do They Send Them Balloons From?
Shoot, they do it from all over the place! I heard tell it’s somethin’ like 900 different spots all around the world. They all send ’em up at the same time, like some kinda big, coordinated balloon dance. Pretty fancy, huh?
What Happens to the Balloons?
Now, them balloons ain’t meant to stay up there forever. They go up, up, up, for a couple of hours, maybe three. Then, they pop! Just like a bubble when you blow it too hard. After they pop, a little parachute thingy opens up and brings the whatchamacallits, the instruments, back down to earth.
They gotta go fetch ‘em then, I reckon. All them fancy gadgets must cost a pretty penny, so they ain’t gonna just leave ’em layin’ around.
Why’s It So Important Anyway?
Well, think about it. Farmers like me need to know when to plant and when to harvest. Pilots need to know if it’s safe to fly. And even you regular folks need to know if you should bring an umbrella or put on your boots. Weather affects just about everything we do, so knowin’ what’s comin’ is mighty important. It’s been goin’ on for a long time too, them weather fellas been doin’ this for over 150 years, can ya believe it?
Them Balloons and Them Rockets.
Now, I also heard some talk about them balloons and some rockets. Seems like when them rockets go up, they want to keep an eye on the weather too. And sometimes, them balloons get in the way. I heard a story ’bout some jets hittin’ a balloon. Didn’t say if they shot it down or what, but it makes you think. Big sky, but things still run into each other sometimes.
And then there’s this thing called “Team Go Rocket” and their balloons, showin’ up every three hours. I don’t know much about that, sounds like somethin’ for the young’uns with their video games. But it seems like everyone’s usin’ balloons these days, huh?
